how can I take a timed shot with this camera?

I have a Canon PowerShot A590IS 8MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Image
Stabilized Zoom I want to take pics of myself for my business and I need to place the camera on a table and take a pic like 5 seconds later, how can i do this and what do u recommend for lighting and should the camera stand where my eyes are or chest etc…positioning…thanks…

Go to the link below, type in “self timer” (no quotes) and read the exerpt from the instruction manual.

The self timer is custom controllable from 2 to 10 seconds.

For the best generic composition, place your eyes 1/3 from the top of the frame. You can try several shots. The cool thing about digital pics are they are “free to throw away”.

For lighting, a diffused light is much better than direct sunlight or flash. Thats why you see pro photographers with bounce units on external flashes. You don’t end up with “mug shots”. Try different places at different times of the day.
